It is a soil improvement technique which is generally used in soft soil conditions. The use of stone columns increase the consolidation settlement rates, decrease the final settlement of structures. The replacement of soft soil with a rigid stone layers increase the final rigidity of the soil, which helps to improve the mechanical behavior of soils.
